How To Sell Your House in 10 Days At The Price You Want

Unbelievable? Can’t be done in this recession? Must have sold at a very low price?

No, not at all. It is a real story which happened this June in New Zealand where the recession is hitting a little bit harder than in Australia, and a little bit less than in America. The asking price was $300,000. A fair request for a standard home.

It started after dinner when Doreen and her husband decided that the house they owned and had lived in for the past 5 years no longer suited their needs. Doreen later named this evening the evening of Day 1. They sat together in the kitchen and talked about what they really wanted. Carefully they wrote down all the things which were important for them in the new place: how many bedrooms or studies, how many bathrooms, the size of the garden, the size of the kitchen and laundry, the location, the look and the feel and how much they wanted to pay for a rental property in the meantime. They had decided to rent for a year before making the next big decision to purchase a new home. Doreen was in the midst of a career change and her needs regarding a home had changed quite a bit.

On Day 2, during the sunny afternoon, Doreen went down to the local coffee shop for a nice cup of coffee, after which she felt the urge to begin her search for the new place they wanted to rent. Her search took her to the local newspaper and the internet, and then there it was, exactly what they wanted. She knew the very second she saw it and eagerly read through the description. She finally found the house they had been looking for as it ticked all the boxes on the list of criteria they had written down. To her surprise and delight, it was owned by the coffee shop owner where she just had that yummy cup of coffee. At 5:30 pm that day, she called and left a message for their real estate agent Linda, stating that they were thinking of selling their house.

The contract with Linda was signed on Day 3.

On Day 4 she got accepted as tenant of the house they wanted, which by some miraculous coincidence, belonged to the coffee shop owner whom they had known for quite some time.

Day 10 was relocation day and they moved all their belongings to the new house.

The first offer came in on Day 12 – but Doreen and her husband rejected it as it was too low. They reminded Linda of the exact price they wanted and made sure she was adding her fees to this asking price.

They finally settled on Day 14. The buyer came back a third time with exactly the amount they wanted.
